Kathy

Kathy Kurzatkowski has been an educator all of her adult life. Her teaching experience is quite varied: initially teaching elementary school; teaching college reading skills at a local Community College; training people to learn employability skills at local non-profits; and working and teaching classes at the DMV. Her various experiences taught her a lot about herself, other people, and  how much there is to continue to learn and to share with others throughout life. She exemplifies the definition of “lifelong learner” and educator. She has retired twice already, and is now back again!

Kathy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University and her Master’s Degree in Education/Reading from the University of Bridgeport. In her newest role, as the Citizenship Class Instructor, Kathy is excited for the opportunity to provide knowledgeable information about this country and how to use the “gifts of freedom” that many do not have around the world. She says, “I am inspired by being a Connector.  I enjoy and appreciate being able to teach others skills to improve their lives. Teaching Citizenship class is a homage to my mother who came to the United States at the age of 16 to have a better life.”.

Kathy loves spending time with her family and grandchildren, and her newly adopted, by default, 20 pound (rather large) 4 or 5 year old gray cat who hugs people around the neck!  Kathy jokes, “One of my hobbies is gardening, which sadly for me, this year that meant raising food for the local deer, squirrels, groundhog, and chipmunks!”.
