VITA Tax Program
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at Burroughs Community Center provides free tax preparation services and prepares Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) applications for low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Our IRS-certified volunteers work closely with clients to ensure accurate, thorough, and timely tax filing, maximizing eligible credits and deductions. Through this service, VITA empowers community members to achieve financial stability and peace of mind.

How to Schedule an Appointment
1 Come to Burroughs: Any time (no appointments are needed for this first step) Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 7 PM, Friday 9 to 3 PM
2 Complete an Intake Form: Upon arrival, you’ll be asked to complete a brief intake form
3 Have your Documents Scanned: Your documents, photo ID and Social Security card will be scanned
4 Schedule an Appointment: Schedule a day and time to meet with a tax preparer—you may choose from in-person or virtual (phone-based) appointments
Please note: appointments can not be scheduled without having all the necessary documents
What to Bring
To ensure a smooth and efficient process, please bring all required tax documents. These documents are essential for accurate tax preparation and to ensure you receive the maximum eligible benefits.

Volunteer Opportunities
Our VITA program relies on dedicated volunteers to make a difference. Each tax return is prepared by an IRS-certified volunteer—a neighbor committed to helping our community succeed. Volunteers play a crucial role in building a stronger, more connected community by donating their time and expertise.
We are seeking volunteers to:
- Prepare Tax Returns: Help clients file accurate tax returns
- Provide Language Interpretation: Assist clients with limited English proficiency
- Offer Tax Planning & Financial Literacy Support: Guide clients in managing their finances
- No experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn and serve! We provide all necessary training, certification, and support.
