VITA Tax Program

What is VITA?: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $55,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Each year, Burroughs helps hundreds of individuals and families complete their tax returns, saving them hundreds of dollars in preparation fees and returning over a million dollars to our community.

Our Partners: Burroughs partners with the Connecticut Association for Human Services, the IRS and joins with over 100 other sites across the state to provide free tax preparation services to its community members. Our IRS certified volunteers prepare federal and state returns, file them electronically and provide the taxpayers a paper copy of their return.

As of Tuesday, April 12, 2022 – The Burroughs VITA site is no longer taking tax appointments. We are filled to capacity.

You may call 211 for information on other VITA sites that may have openings available at this time.

Individuals with access to the internet may self-prepare and file their taxes on-line for free at http://www.myfreetaxes.com/
